Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a measles awareness
discussion and poster exhibition for primary school students in Tarash upazila,
Sirajganj on Tuesday.
The programme was hosted at Chalamagura Government Primary
School in the Tarash municipal town.
The event was presided over by Shamiul Haque Shamim,
president of the upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, and moderated by the
unit’s General Secretary Md Lutfor Rahman. Dr Shyamal Kumar was the keynote
speaker. Also present were: the primary school’s Head Master Adaita Sarkar,
Assistant Teachers Jahid Hasan and Subhas Bhowmik, as well as journalists
Mrinal Sarkar Milu, and Sanatan Das. Sanatan Das is the Tarash-Raiganj
correspondent of the Daily Kaler Kantho.
Dr Shyamal Kumar said that measles cases have recently
increased across the country. He noted that the government is making all-out
efforts to control the outbreak and that regular vaccination services are being
provided at government health complexes.
He further said that family members must remain vigilant
when a child is infected with measles. The affected child should be cared for
separately, and medical advice should be sought promptly. He emphasised that
measles can be prevented through collective awareness and effort. He also
provided students with important guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle
and preventing diseases.
Head Teacher Adaita Sarkar said that the awareness program
organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho had helped increase students' awareness.
He expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future.
