Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a discussion meeting in Faridpur to raise social awareness and strengthen collective efforts to prevent rape, sexual violence and abuse against women.

The meeting, titled “What should be done to prevent rape and violence against women”, took place on Saturday afternoon at the office of Rongin Suta Youth Development Organisation in the Kuthibari-Kamalapur area of Faridpur town.

Tanmoy Roy, president of the Faridpur district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, chaired the programme, while General Secretary Sonia Sultana conducted it.

Harun-Or-Rashid, adviser to the district unit and Faridpur correspondent of Banglanews24.com, attended the event as the guest speaker.

He described rape and sexual violence as among the most heinous crimes against humanity and civilisation. He said society could not stop such crimes through law enforcement alone and urged families, educational institutions, religious organisations and young people to work together to prevent them.

Harun-Or-Rashid stressed the importance of moral education for children, respect for women and the promotion of human values. He also warned that the misuse of social media, drug addiction, moral decline and weak family supervision often contribute to rising criminal tendencies.

He called for greater public awareness, swift justice for offenders and stronger legal and psychological support for survivors of violence.

Other speakers said society must intensify awareness campaigns at every level to ensure the safety of women and children. They also emphasised engaging young people in positive activities to reduce crime and build a more responsible society.

Among those present were Tihanur Rahman Tihan, office secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho; Biplob Biswas, hospitality affairs secretary; Mehrab Hossain Emon; Sanjida Islam; Tamanna Afroza; Sahela Akter; Ayesha Siddika; Latiful Khabir; Samia Akter; and other members of the organisation.

At the end of the meeting, participants pledged to continue awareness campaigns and community-based programmes aimed at preventing rape and violence against women and strengthening social resistance to such crimes.
