Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a human chain in
Biswambharpur, Sunamganj on Thursday, to raise awareness about road safety amid
almost unrelenting road accidents across the country.
The human chain was formed around 4:00pm at the Freedom
Fighters’ Square in Chinakandi Bazar under Dhanpur Union.
The event was chaired by Jahangir Alam Bhuiyan, president of
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Biswambharpur branch, and moderated by Shah Alam, the
branch’s general secretary. Among those who spoke were village doctor Ashik
Nur, businessmen Raham Ali and Robi Hossain, Chinakandi CNG Station Manager
Imran Mia, and many others.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said that road accidents
continue to claim numerous lives across the country every day. They pointed out
that a lack of awareness, reckless driving, excessive speeding, violations of
traffic regulations, and shortcomings in road management are among the major
causes behind the rising number of accidents.
They also highlighted that ensuring road safety requires the
combined efforts of both government authorities and social organizations.
The speakers noted that road accidents are not merely
individual incidents but a broader social concern. They emphasized the
importance of regular awareness campaigns, professional driver training,
ensuring vehicle fitness, and restoring discipline on the roads to prevent
accidents.
The human chain drew participation from local
businesspeople, transport workers, members of social organizations, and people
from various walks of life.
