To encourage young people to engage in sports and keep them away from mobile gaming addiction, social media overuse, and drugs, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has launched a three-month football distribution programme in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.

Members of the organisation said footballs will be distributed among players of various football teams and clubs across the upazila under the programme.

A range of activities will also be organised to promote sports, healthy recreation, and social awareness among young people.

The programme was inaugurated on 4 June with the distribution of a football to players of Ramnagar Football XI. Md Sabuj Khan, a teacher and social worker, was present at the event as the chief guest.

He said, “Young people today face various challenges. Sports not only keep the body and mind healthy but also help develop leadership, discipline, and a sense of responsibility.”

Thanking Bashundhara Shuvosangho, Ramnagar Football XI captain Dihan expressed his delight, saying, “Receiving a new football has increased both our enthusiasm and sense of responsibility. It will help us practise more consistently.”

On 5 June, a football was also distributed to players of Pashchim Malsadah Football Club.

“This gift is a great source of inspiration for us. It has also increased our responsibility,” the club’s captain, Rabbi, said.

Gangni upazila unit Shuvosangho acting general secretary Fahad Hossain Shihab attended the event as the chief guest.

He said, “Young people must decide now which path they want to follow. If time is utilised properly, sports can also pave the way for a bright future.”

The event was conducted by Raju Ahmed Boni, president of the Gangni upazila unit Shuvosangho.

He said, “The main objective of this three-month football distribution programme is to encourage young people to become more actively involved in sports. Sports should not be viewed merely as a source of entertainment but also as a potential career path.”

Among those present were Gangni upazila unit Shuvosangho Adviser Parvez Sazzad, Vice-President Abdur Rahim, Organising Secretary Khairul Basar, and Executive members Zayed Kabir, Yasin Habib, and Wahiduzzaman Swapnil.
