As part of its Eid celebrations with marginalised people, Bashundhara
Shuvosangho organised a pot breaking competition for farmers at a rural area in
Bogura on Tuesday afternoon.
The contest and prize giving ceremony were held at Damdama
village, Santahar union, Adamdighi upazila in the district.
The top three contestants received soybean oil, and flour
produced by Bashundhara Group. The village’s retired railways officer Alhajj
Golam Kibria, former Santahar union parishad member Maruf-ul-Hasan Khan Shiplu,
and Santahar municipality Press Club President Zillur Rahman handed over the
prizes. Also present were social activists Sakhawat Hossain Khokon, Amjad
Hossain Mallick and Toazzem.
An elderly farmer named Bhutta said nobody organises sports
events for marginalised people like farmers. “I feel very much elated having
played at such an old age. All the credit goes to the Bashundhara Shuvosangho
for organising such a unique event,” he said.
Tarikul Islam Zentu, adviser at Shuvosangho’s Adamdighi
upazila unit and Kaler Kantho’s local correspondent, said nobody thinks about
entertaining the farmer community. To fill this gap, Shuvosangho organised the
pot breaking contest, he added.
