The Nilphamari Government College unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho observed Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day with due respect on Saturday by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on the college campus.

Volunteers of the organisation, carrying the slogan “Shubho Kajey Shobar Pashe”, joined a dawn procession before gathering at the Shaheed Minar. They laid floral wreaths at the altar to honour the language martyrs of 1952.

Principal Prof Md Aminul Islam, who serves as chief patron of the unit, led the tribute. Vice-principal Prof Mohammad Golam Mostafa Chowdhury attended as patron. Chief Adviser Shaila Parveen and advisers Ratan Chandra Roy, Utpal Chandra Roy, Md Abu Bakar Siddique and Romana Akter also joined the programme. Unit President Md Imran Shah coordinated the event.

Addressing a brief discussion, Principal Aminul Islam said the Language Movement of 1952 paved the way for the country’s independence. He praised the initiative for inspiring the younger generation with the spirit of Ekushey.

Vice-principal Golam Mostafa Chowdhury said Mother Language Day teaches people to stand against injustice and said the organisation’s commitment to social service and national observances brings pride to the college.

Chief Adviser Shaila Parveen urged students to engage more actively in the practice of Bangla language and literature, saying such tributes nurture patriotism.

President Imran Shah said the organisation arranged the programme to express gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives to protect the dignity of the mother tongue and to keep the spirit of Ekushey alive in building a better society.

Participants observed a one-minute silence and prayed for the departed souls of the martyrs. Leaders and members of the unit, including vice-presidents, joint secretaries, organising secretaries and students from different departments, took part in the programme.
