Bashundhara Shuvosangho members distributed manuals on
responsible tourism among visitors at different points of the Kuakata sea beach
on Monday.
Shuvosangho activists also provided verbal guidelines to the
tourists on sustainable travel, environment protection, and respect for local
culture and people.
Md Saidur Rahman, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s
unit at Kuakata municipality; Hosain Amir, vice president of the unit; and Jahidul
Islam Jahid, general secretary; took part in the awareness campaign, among
others.
The guidelines highlighted the importance of not littering on the beach,
reducing the use of plastic and polythene, protecting marine life and the
coastal environment, complying with local laws and regulations, and respecting
the livelihoods and culture of local communities. It was also emphasised that
only responsible behaviour by tourists can help preserve Kuakata’s natural
beauty and tourism potential.
Mohammad Saidur Rahman said that Kuakata is one of the country’s most
important tourist destinations. However, unplanned and irresponsible tourism is
threatening environmental quality and the natural balance, he added.
Shuvosangho’s initiative was taken to convey the message of responsible
tourism to visitors, Saidur Rahman noted.
Tourists expressed satisfaction after receiving the guidelines. They said
such initiatives make travel more meaningful. Many tourists also pledged to
adopt environmentally friendly and responsible behaviour in the future.
