A severely ill child in Sarishabari has received humanitarian assistance from members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, offering hope to a family struggling under extreme hardship.
Muslima Akter, born with an abnormally enlarged head, has been
suffering since birth. Her parents—Munzur Rahman and Bina Begum of Phulbaria
village in Sarishabari municipality, Jamalpur—have spent all their savings
seeking treatment for their daughter at various hospitals. Now destitute, they
are unable to afford further medical care and often struggle to manage daily
meals.
On Monday, members of the Sarishabari unit of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho visited the family and handed over food supplies as part of their
humanitarian support.
Muslima’s mother, Bina Begum, said their family has been pushed to
the brink after years of medical expenses. Her husband drives a van to support
the household, but the income is barely enough for their basic needs.
“The doctors say she needs an operation. Without surgery, there is
no treatment. It will cost a lot of money—where will we get that?” she said in
tears, expressing her helplessness as her daughter’s condition continues to
deteriorate.
She expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Shuvosangho for extending
support during their desperate time.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Robiul Islam, adviser of the
Sarishabari Bashundhara Shuvosangho unit, said the organisation is committed to
supporting people in need across the country.
“In continuation of our welfare activities, we have provided food
assistance to this distressed family. We will continue to stand beside good
causes,” he said.
He further noted that Muslima urgently needs surgery and called upon
affluent individuals and organisations to come forward to help save the child.
Among others present during the distribution were Mominul Islam
Kismat, Sarishabari correspondent of Kaler Kantho and Shuvosangho adviser;
Sohanur Rahman Sohan; unit president Zakaria Ahmed; general secretary
Kamruzzaman Liton; finance secretary Shakil Ahmed; and journalists Abul
Hossain, Ismail Hossain and Shahariya Saddam.
