Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed free sewing machines to 15 families each at an event held at Bhola Press Club, Bhola on Sunday.

Earlier, Bashundhara Shuvosangho arranged for sewing trainings for a woman from each of these families.

Alhaj Golam Nabi Alamgir, BNP’s potential candidate for Bhola-1 parliamentary seat, was present as chief guest at the sewing machine distribution event.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Group Chairman and Bashundhara Shuvosangho for the welfare initiative.

One Seema Akter said her husband was once a construction worker and a sole breadwinner of the family. However, seven months ago, he suffered a serious occupational injury that broke his backbone, and left him bedridden.

The family fell in a deep crisis following the accident. But now, with the sewing machine, Seema hopes to improve the household’s financial status and also pay for her husband’s treatment, she said.

BNP leader Alhaj Golam Nabi lauded Bashundhara Shuvosangho and Bashundhara Group for donating sewing machines across the country for women empowerment. Bashundhara Shuvosangho also regularly provides stipends to students and establishes educational institutions across rural areas, he noted.

Md Shafayat Hossain Siam, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Bhola district unit, chaired the event. The special guests included Tarikul Islam Kayed, BNP’s joint convener in Bhola district; Jakaria Zaman, senior sub-editor of Kaler Kantho and director of Bashundhara Shuvosangho; Md Mamun, senior official at Bashundhara Foundation; Maulana Torikul Islam, secretary of Islami Andolon at northern Bhola; Selina Akter, official at the town’s social services office; and Mir Mosharref Hossain Omi, member of the District Coordination Committee of the National Citizen Party (NCP).

Also present were Neyamatullah, Bhola Correspondent of Prothom Alo; M Helal Uddin, Bhola Correspondent of Jugantor; Choton Saha, Bhola Correspondent of Banglanews24; and Ikramul Alam, Bhola Correspondent of Kaler Kantho.
