Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a friendly football match at a village in Adamdighi upazila, Bogura to encourage people in taking up sports activities as a proper pastime and mental stress relief measure instead of drug abuse.

The organisation’s upazila unit arranged the match on the field of IPJ Pilot High School on Wednesday afternoon. Mokhlesur Rahman, general secretary of BNP’s Adamdighi Sadar Union unit, inaugurated the match.

Youths from Ward No 4 and Ward No 5 from Adamdighi Sadar Union formed the opposing groups in the match. Youths from Ward No 4 had the final laugh as they beat their rivals in a 4-2 penalty shootout after a goalless draw in the main field.

Adamdighi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Masuma Begum handed over the prizes to the winning team and their rivals. Rezaul Karim Swapan clinched the man-of-the match award.

At the award ceremony, Masuma Begum thanked Bashundhara Shuvosangho for hosting the football match. Sports is essential to building a narcotics-free society, just as learning is essential to building an educated society, she noted.
