Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a workshop titled “The Role of Family and Society in Shaping Adolescent Mental Health” in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah.
The event took place on Tuesday at the auditorium of Fulhori Secondary School.
The programme was presided over by Lakhan Prasad Saha, president of Fulhori Secondary School, and conducted by Debbrata Chakraborty, member secretary of the Shailkupa unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Among others, Jhenaidah district unit general secretary Keya Rani Pramanik, organisational secretary Habibur Rahman Rubel, Shailkupa upazila convener Ibrahim Khalil, joint convener Dipak Kumar Biswas, and former school management committee president Nasir Uddin Panju addressed the event.
Speakers highlighted that adolescent mental health has become a major concern both in Bangladesh and globally. They noted that during adolescence, young people face stress from studies, social comparisons, family problems, and online life — all of which deeply affect their mental well-being.
They emphasised that family is the greatest source of support for adolescents. Parental warmth, empathy, and open communication help maintain emotional stability. Spending time with children daily, listening attentively, and encouraging small achievements were cited as vital for their mental health.
Speakers also warned that lack of proper guidance from families and society is pushing many adolescents towards addiction to mobile games and drugs. They stressed that schools, families, and all sections of society must work together to ensure the healthy mental development and moral education of the younger generation.
More than 400 students of Fulhori Secondary School participated in the workshop.
