A vibrant literary adda, organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho, was held in the scenic southern coastal town of Kuakata, inspiring young people to engage in creative pursuits.

The event, organised by the Kuakata municipal unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, took place on Monday (27 October) afternoon at the playground of Musulliabadh Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa. The lively gathering turned into a meeting point for young writers and literature enthusiasts.

Md Saidur Rahman, president of the Kuakata municipal unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, presided over the event. Md Shah Jahan Sikdar, head teacher of Anjupara Government Primary School, attended as the chief guest, while Md Habil Hossain, assistant teacher (English) of Musulliabadh Islamia Fazil Madrasa, was present as the chief discussant.

Among the special guests were assistant teachers Md Anwar Hossain and Maulana Murtaza Amin, and Jahidul Islam Jahid, general secretary of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Kuakata municipal unit. Literary secretary Md Abidul Islam, members Faisal, Nasir, and Md Solaiman, along with local teachers, journalists, students, and cultural activists, also attended the event.

The session began with the national anthem, followed by poetry recitations, impromptu speeches, and open discussions.

The highlight of the adda was an in-depth discussion on William Shakespeare and his famous play Hamlet.

Chief discussant Md Habil Hossain shed light on Shakespeare’s literary genius, his profound understanding of human nature, and the themes of revenge, conflict, and human sorrow portrayed in Hamlet. He said—“Shakespeare’s works depict every emotion and crisis of human life in a way that continues to inspire readers across centuries. If young minds draw inspiration from such literature, their intellect and creativity will reach new heights.”

Young writers and students recited their own poems and stories and exchanged views on the importance of literary practice, the decline in reading habits, and the cultivation of creative thinking.

Chief guest Md Shah Jahan Sikder said—“Literature is not confined to the pages of books; it beautifully connects the human mind, society, and nature. This is the first literary adda I have seen in Kuakata—it will undoubtedly inspire the younger generation with humanistic and cultural values.”

Organisers said such regular literary gatherings will play a vital role in nurturing creativity, reading habits, and human values among the youth of Kuakata.
