Actress Tanjin Tisha has been sued for defamation over allegations of circulating objectionable photos and spreading false information on Facebook, following the recent saree controversy.
Fashion designer and Editor of Velvet-Youth magazine
Sanaya Anam Wafika Chowdhury filed the case with the court of Dhaka
Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Hossain on Sunday.
The court recorded the complainant's statement and
directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the
allegations. It also asked the investigating agency to submit its report by 21
January.
The complainant's lawyer, Shubhra Sinha Roy,
confirmed the information, saying, "We had earlier sent a legal notice to
Tisha on 28 October on behalf of the complainant, asking her to take corrective
action. However, she did not comply, prompting us to file the case."
According to the case petition, two separate cases
filed by the complainant against Tisha are currently pending before the Dhaka
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and the Executive Magistrate Court.
The petition alleged that after the cases were
filed, the accused, out of vengeance, started circulating objectionable photos
and false information from her verified Facebook page on 27 October. She also
allegedly presented misleading information about the complainant to different
media outlets.
The petition further alleged that on 7 November 2025,
the accused called the complainant through Facebook Messenger and threatened to
make her go viral.
"Let me know when you become famous; I will
upload your photos," the actress allegedly said.
According to the complaint, the accused published a
photograph showing the complainant kissing a woman without her consent. She
also allegedly posted photographs of two minor children.
The petition further alleged that Tisha made
misleading remarks about the complainant in a Facebook post. The complainant
noticed the posts at around 11:00pm on 27 October and sent a legal notice to
Tisha by registered post through her lawyer the following day.
However, the accused did not remove the content
within the stipulated period, the petition stated.
It further alleged that Tisha made derogatory
comments, which had damaged the complainant's reputation, it added.
Earlier, on 27 November 2025, Sanaya Anam filed a
case against Tisha, accusing her of fraud and criminal breach of trust.
Later, on 27 October, she filed another case,
accusing Tisha of threatening her to force her to withdraw the earlier case. In
that case, the court directed Tanjin Tisha to appear before it on 23 November.
