The fourth session of the 13th National Parliament is set to begin at 3:30pm on Monday.
The constitution stipulates that the next session of
the parliament must be held within 60 days from the conclusion of the previous
session.
As a result, the fourth parliamentary session is set
to be held to maintain the constitutional requirement.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called the
session under Section 72(1) of the constitution on 14 October.
The Parliament Secretariat has already taken overall
preparation for the session. The session might continue for 10 days till 20
November.
Asked about the matter, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni
said, “The session will be short. Around five to six bills might be placed
during the session, and discussions would be held on these bills.”
As there is an obligation to hold a new session in
January 2027, the fourth session is being shortened.
The first parliamentary session of the year usually
takes place in January. As a result, the first session of 2027 might be held in
mid-January.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the parliamentary advisory
committee will be held on the first day of the fourth session, where the
timeline and the activities of the session will be finalised.
According to sources, question-answer sessions and
discussions on public interest notices and general issues will be held during
the fourth session of the parliament.
Discussions might be held under specific timeline if
the opposition wants to discuss current and public interest issues outside pre-scheduled
activities.
However, the much talked about proposal regarding
constitutional amendment will not be presented during this session. The special
committee on constitutional amendment is preparing the proposal, which might be
placed during the fifth session scheduled for January.
