Customs intelligence officials have seized 90 e-cigarettes or vapes, 166 cartons of cigarettes, 12kg of banned Gouri cream and 100 grams of gold ornaments in separate operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 6 and 7 November 2026.

The total estimated market value of the seized goods is Tk32,02,500.

In an operation on 6 November, officials of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate took precautionary measures at the airport following a tip-off.

They subsequently searched the baggage of Sultana Razia, who arrived in Dhaka from Kuala Lumpur on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-387, and recovered 90 e-cigarettes or vapes, 12kg of banned Gouri cream and 100 grams of gold ornaments.

According to relevant records, her passport contains an entry showing that she brought 100 grams of gold ornaments into the country on 13 August 2026.

As she was found bringing another 100 grams of gold ornaments in the same year, the latest consignment was seized, the source said.

In a separate operation on 7 November, officials seized 166 cartons of cigarettes found abandoned on the baggage belt of Qatar Airways flight QR-640, which arrived in Dhaka from Qatar.

The incident involving e-cigarettes or vapes carried in passenger baggage has raised concerns over an emerging trend in smuggling.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate said its surveillance and enforcement operations were continuing to protect revenue and prevent the illegal entry of prohibited goods and products posing risks to public health.
