Seven Bangladeshis killed in Saudi road crash

At least seven Bangladeshis were killed and 15 others were injured in a road crash in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia early Friday, the Bangladeshi consulate general in the city has confirmed.

They were on their way to Jeddah from Medina when a truck hit their bus from behind around 2am Friday, causing the bus driver to lose control and suffer a crash, local officials said.

Saudi Arabian police and civil defence personnel rescued them and rushed them to a local hospital.

All the victims hail from Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar, and had family members working at the Al Abir Cold Storage Trading Company in the kingdom, said Nuruzzaman, marketing manager at the company.

The deceased include Ziaur Rahman, store keeper at Al Abir Cold Storage Trading Company, his two sons and a daughter.

There were also the wife of the company’s forklift driver Ilias, Mecca office store keeper Alam Shah, and Shah’s one-month-old daughter.
