The government will provide free seeds and fertilisers worth Tk198.9 crore to 14.6 lakh farmers across the country during the 2026-27 Rabi season to encourage the cultivation and boost the production of seven crops.
Under the programme, farmers will receive agricultural inputs for growing mustard, groundnut, soybean, mung bean, lentil, khesari (grass pea) and pigeon pea, according to a government order issued by the Ministry of Agriculture on 2 November.
Mustard growers will receive the largest share of the support, with 12.9 lakh farmers set to benefit.
The programme will also cover 35,000 groundnut farmers, 30,000 soybean farmers, 30,000 mung bean farmers, 20,000 lentil farmers, 20,000 khesari farmers and 5,000 pigeon pea farmers.
The assistance will come from the agricultural rehabilitation fund. District-level committees will distribute the allocated funds among upazilas, while local agriculture officials will identify genuine small and marginal farmers for the programme.
Each farming family will be eligible for support for only one of the seven crops and cannot receive incentives for multiple crops.
The government has also fixed the quantities of seeds and fertilisers to be provided for cultivating each crop on one bigha of land.
The programme will be implemented in blocks consisting of at least 10 farmers collectively cultivating 10 bighas or more. Priority will be given to areas with potential for expanding the cultivation of the selected crops.
Authorities will be required to record beneficiaries' national identity card and mobile phone numbers, update their agricultural cards and collect their signatures or fingerprints as proof of receiving the inputs.
The beneficiary lists must be published on district and upazila websites. Reports on programme implementation and crop harvesting must also be submitted to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) within 10 working days of the respective activities.
