Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for national unity to protect people's rights and prevent Bangladesh from falling under foreign domination, saying every generation has a responsibility to uphold the spirit of independence.
“Let this be our main pledge on this 7 November that no one will ever again be able to take away the rights of the country and its people or turn Bangladesh into a subservient state,” he said.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing a special display programme at the Army Stadium in Banani, Dhaka, on Saturday, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
He said national unity was essential to fulfil this pledge and stressed the need to uphold the spirit of the 7 November revolution of soldiers and people, taking into account the country's socioeconomic, geographical and political realities.
Referring to the 7 November revolution of 1975, the anti-autocracy movement of 1990 and the mass uprising against fascism in 2024, Tarique said young people had consistently demonstrated their commitment to Bangladesh's interests through every major historic movement.
He said achieving independence was a matter of great historical pride, but preserving its honour and making it meaningful remained the responsibility of every generation, particularly the younger one.
“The responsibility of the young generation is to uphold the spirit of independence and devote themselves to building a safe, prosperous, humane and dignified Bangladesh,” he said.
He also said guardians had a responsibility to create an environment in which young people could develop their full potential.
Tarique said his government was firmly committed to building a prosperous future for the country.
“History bears witness that whenever there has been a conspiracy against Bangladesh or its democracy has been threatened, the country has risen again with the spirit of unity and revolution of 7 November,” he said.
The Prime Minister thanked the National Revolution and Solidarity Day 2026 Celebration Committee, the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces Division, the Bangladesh Army, BNCC, Bangladesh Scouts and the patriotic, democratic people for organising the programme.
Addressing the young participants, he urged them to draw inspiration from the historic day and always put the country's interests first.
“Let the voice of the patriotic and democracy-loving people on this historic day of the revolution of soldiers and people be: ‘Not Dilli, not Pindi, nor any other country. Bangladesh first’,” he said.
