A Dhaka court on Friday ordered the detention of Jerika Tasnim Disha, 19, a friend of former Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) officer Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri, in jail after the end of her second round of remand in a murder case over his death.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid passed the order after a hearing, said Prosecution Department Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam.

On the day, investigation officer Firoz Uddin, an inspector of the Tongi River Police Outpost, produced Disha before the court after completing her seven-day remand and sought her detention in jail.

There was no bail petition on behalf of the accused during the hearing.

In its petition, the investigation officer said Disha had provided some important information about the incident during interrogation, which was being kept confidential and verified for the sake of the investigation.

However, she was described as clever and evasive, allegedly avoiding answers to several questions and maintaining silence during interrogation.

Another suspect in the case, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, is also currently in police remand for the third time in connection with the case.

The petition said investigators needed to cross-check the statements of Disha and Dip to identify inconsistencies. An examination of the call records of the deceased's mobile phone also revealed several conversations with Disha.

The investigation officer said preliminary evidence suggested Disha's possible involvement in the killing. He expressed concern that she might go into hiding if released on bail, potentially hampering the investigation.

Tahsif went missing on the evening of 27 October after leaving home in response to a call from his junior friend Dwip. His body was recovered by river police from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River the following afternoon.

His father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified persons at Uttarkhan Police Station at 1:05am on 30 October. Police later showed Dwip and Disha arrested in the case as suspects.
