Ensuring effective cybersecurity at both individual and institutional levels is one of the key priorities of a democratic government, Prime Minister's Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin has said.
He said the government was working to
implement policy and legal frameworks to protect every citizen, safeguard
personal data and ensure dignity and online security.
The Prime Minister's Office spokesperson made
the remarks at the CyberFrames National Award ceremony at North South
University (NSU) in the capital on Thursday night.
He said the government believed that open
consultations and dialogue could help build a broad national consensus on cybersecurity
while upholding its core objectives and ensuring equality, fairness and justice
for every citizen under the law.
Highlighting the growing importance of
cybersecurity, Mahdi Amin said it was directly linked to people's everyday
lives and personal safety.
People were increasingly falling victim to cyber fraud, financial irregularities and misinformation, while false information was being used to mislead people and damage reputations, he said.
He also warned that digital platforms were
being used to harass women and make cyberspace unsafe for them.
Stressing the need to raise awareness about
the misuse of internet-connected devices, including laptops and mobile phones,
he said preventing the theft of sensitive information and hacking was
essential.
He called for stronger efforts to curb the misuse of technology and make cyberspace safer, particularly for women and ordinary citizens.
Praising the competition and the short films
screened at the event, Mahdi Amin said the works had effectively highlighted
ways to identify cybercrimes, raise public awareness and seek remedies.
He urged victims of cybercrime and privacy violations
not to be intimidated but to stand firm and seek legal assistance from the
state.
He said the success of the competition lay
not in winning or losing but in promoting positive values in society, adding
that the government would support such constructive awareness-raising initiatives.
Recalling North South University's role as
the country's first private university, he acknowledged its historical
contribution to expanding higher education and the courage shown by its
teachers and students during the July 2024 mass uprising.
