Multiple crude bombs exploded in several areas of Dhaka over
the past 24 hours, including an attack on a police patrol vehicle in the
Kurmitola area, police said.
Members of the banned Chhatra League allegedly threw a crude
bomb from a motorcycle procession, hitting a patrol vehicle, and injuring
constable Md Enamul. Three people were detained on suspicion of involvement.
Cantonment Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Gias
Uddin said a procession of about 70 to 80 motorcycles was heading from Banani
toward Kuril Bishwa Road in the morning, with participants chanting “Joy Bangla.”
Constable Enamul sustained an injury to his left eye in the
blast. He was initially taken to Kurmitola General Hospital before being
transferred, on doctors’ advice, to the National Institute of Ophthalmology and
Hospital in Agargaon, Gias Uddin said.
Separately, two crude bombs were thrown near the July
Memorial monument in the Badda area on Thursday, causing panic.
Crude bombs also exploded outside the Pan Pacific Sonargaon
Hotel and Rajarbagh Police Lines on Thursday night, with no casualties reported.
The first explosion occurred on the road outside Gate 1 of
the Sonargaon Hotel at about 9:30pm, followed by another outside Gate 3 of
Rajarbagh Police Lines at about 10:10pm.
Police are investigating both incidents and working to
identify those responsible, officials said.
Furthermore, twenty unexploded crude bombs were also
recovered in Mirpur.
