A contingent of 24 Bangladesh Navy personnel left Dhaka early on Thursday for Qatar to serve in the Qatar Coast and Border Security Department (QCBSD) for three years.
The personnel will perform various maritime security duties under
the QCBSD, which operates under Qatar's Ministry of Interior, said a press
release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.
Earlier, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral
Golam Sadeq briefed the departing personnel, urging them to maintain
professionalism, discipline and dedication while discharging their duties.
The Bangladesh Navy has been regularly deploying personnel to the
QCBSD since 2012. Its members have earned the trust and appreciation of the
Qatari authorities through their competence, professionalism and dedication.
The newly deployed personnel will be responsible for safeguarding Qatar's coastal and maritime areas, conducting maritime patrols, carrying out search and rescue operations, and preventing smuggling.
Their deployment will add skilled manpower and experience to
Qatar's maritime security management while strengthening defence and security
cooperation between the two countries. It will also provide opportunities for
exchanging professional knowledge and experience.
The personnel are expected to contribute to Bangladesh's
remittance inflow while upholding the Bangladesh Navy's professionalism and
enhancing the country's image abroad, the ISPR added.
The Bangladesh Navy continues to contribute to international peace
and cooperation while safeguarding the country's maritime sovereignty and
security.
