The parliamentary committee on the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs has asked the ministry to provide details of the measures taken for all people affected by the Sajek issue.

The ministry has been asked to submit a report on the matter at the next meeting of the committee.

The recommendation was made at the meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday with its Chairman Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan in the chair.

CHT Affairs Minister Saching Pru, committee members Mostafa Kamal Pasha, Dipen Dewan, Shahjahan Chowdhury, Mohammad Zahirul Islam and Masum Mostafa attended the meeting.

The committee also recommended taking necessary steps to eliminate irregularities in the distribution of ration cards among repatriated refugees and non-ethnic people living in cluster villages in the hill districts, ensuring that only genuine beneficiaries receive the cards.

It asked the ministry to submit details of vacant posts in the ministry and its subordinate offices, along with information on the steps taken to fill those positions, at the next meeting.

The committee also sought a detailed account of any irregularities or corruption in the ministry and its subordinate agencies during the previous Awami League government and the interim government, as well as the measures taken in this regard.

It recommended increasing the reduced honorarium of para workers employed under the Sustainable Social Services Project in the Chittagong Hill Tracts to a reasonable level in line with the rising cost of living.

The committee decided to hold meetings and conduct visits in December 2026 involving the three hill district councils, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council and the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board.

The meeting also discussed the allocation and equitable distribution of the ministry's budget for the current fiscal year, irregularities in food grain allocation, expenditure plans and various development projects.

It made recommendations to the ministry for taking necessary action on these issues.
