American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has discussed the possibility of hosting a QS event in Bangladesh during a meeting with officials of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) at the QS Higher Education Summit: Asia Pacific 2026 in Bali, Indonesia.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the three-day summit from 3 to 5 November at the Bali International Convention Centre, where AIUB representatives discussed preparations for organising a QS event in Bangladesh, strengthening institutional cooperation and exploring future joint initiatives, said a press release.

The summit, themed “Advancing Education for Purpose and Impact,” brought together higher education leaders, policymakers and academics from different countries to discuss the internationalisation of higher education, innovation, research and effective global partnerships.

The AIUB delegation included Ishtiaque Abedin, founding member and vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees and secretary general of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB); Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, member of the Board of Trustees; Prof Dr Saiful Islam, vice-chancellor; Carlin Noel Jita Lamagna, deputy director of the Office of Planning and Development and senior assistant professor; Mashiur Rahman, director of Rankings and Global Engagement and senior associate professor; and Md Abu Mia Akand, head of the Public Relations Department.

AIUB represented Bangladesh as part of the Bangladesh Pavilion at the summit to highlight the country's higher education sector and its potential on the international stage.

Following the opening ceremony, Ishtiaque Abedin and Dr Carmen Z Lamagna took part in a discussion on the changing landscape of higher education and purpose-driven international engagement.

Meanwhile, Prof Dr Saiful Islam attended an academic session focusing on emerging trends and challenges in higher education.

Dr Ashwin Fernandes, vice-president of Strategic and International Engagement, inaugurated the Bangladesh Pavilion in the presence of the Bangladeshi delegation.

Throughout the summit, the AIUB delegation also exchanged views with representatives of various universities and educational institutions from the Asia-Pacific region.

Discussions focused on academic partnerships, joint research, faculty and student exchange programmes, and potential memorandums of understanding.

AIUB's participation is part of its continued efforts to expand its international network, enhance its global visibility and establish meaningful academic partnerships. Such initiatives are expected to contribute to the internationalisation of higher education in Bangladesh and strengthen global academic cooperation.
