A Dhaka court on Thursday deferred the date for submission of the probe report to 8 December in the murder case of late film actor Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon, widely known as Salman Shah, filed against 11 people, including his wife, Samira Haque.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana set the new
date as the investigating officer failed to submit the report on the scheduled
date. This marks the 11th deferment of the probe report submission date.
Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Shah Alam
confirmed the information, saying Thursday was scheduled for submission of the
probe report. However, Investigating Officer of the case and CID Inspector
Ziaul Morshed failed to submit it, prompting the court to set a new date.
Earlier, on 20 October, Dhaka’s 6th Additional
Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed an order to file a fresh case nearly
29 years after the actor’s death.
The court also ordered Ramna model police station to
submit the probe report. On the same night, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Md
Alamgir Kumkum, filed the case with the police station.
Along with Salman Shah’s wife, businessman Aziz
Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Luci, film actor Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Rubi,
Abdus Sattar, Saju and Rezvi Ahmed were made accused in the case.
Among the accused, Don has been arrested recently
and placed on remand in the case and now in jail.
On 6 September 1996, film actor Salman Shah’s body
was recovered from his residence in Eskaton, Dhaka. His father, Komoruddin
Ahmed Chowdhury, initially filed an unnatural death (UD) case.
