A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Diamond World’s Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain passed the order following a police application, said Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
Earlier in the day, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Safatullah ordered that Dilip Agarwala be shown arrested in the case following a petition filed by the investigation officer, Detective Branch Inspector Md Masudur Rahman.
The investigation officer later filed another petition seeking a 10-day remand for the accused for questioning.
The defence opposed the remand plea and sought bail for Dilip Agarwala. However, after hearing both sides, the court passed the remand order.
According to the case documents, 35 to 40 leaders and activists of Awami League whose activities are banned, its affiliated organisations, and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, took part in a procession near Mohakhali Bus Terminal.
They allegedly chanted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the ban on the Awami League’s activities and detonated crude bombs.
A case was filed over the incident with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station on 18 June 2026 under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Police claimed to have found evidence of Agarwala's involvement as a financier and patron of the alleged activities. His interrogation could provide important information about the identities of absconding associates, their plans and the source of the explosives, the remand petition said.
Police arrested Agarwala from Banani in the capital on 19 October. The following day, a court granted a one-day remand in a case filed against him over allegations of money laundering and smuggling gold and diamonds.
Later, he was placed on a six-day remand in an attempted murder case related to the July mass uprising. He was sent to jail after the remand period ended.
On 2 November, Dilip, a member of the central industry and commerce sub-committee of Awami League, was also shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
