A charity run titled "Axiom REACH 7.5K to Fight Cancer 2027" will be held at Hatirjheel in the capital on 8 January 2027 to raise funds for underprivileged children battling cancer across Bangladesh.
National Film Award-winning singer Dilshad Nahar Kona has
joined the initiative as event ambassador.
The US-based non-profit Axiom REACH Foundation announced at
a press conference in Dhaka on Wednesday, moderated by its Bangladesh board
member Zahidul Hasan, said a press release.
The event features a 7.5-kilometre main run, alongside a
1-kilometre category open to children under 14 and senior citizens over 65.
The organisers have arranged special registration facilities for students and rolled out a virtual participation format to allow runners from home and abroad to take part.
Race management is being overseen by UCR, with ultrarunner
and triathlete Nahidul Islam serving as race director.
Modelled after the "Princeton 5K to Fight Cancer"
held in New Jersey for five consecutive years, the Dhaka run seeks to channel
civic engagement into financial backing for families burdened by prolonged
pediatric oncology expenses.
"If my voice can bring courage to children fighting
cancer and hope to their struggling families, that will be my greatest
achievement," Kona said, urging runners and citizens to join the
Hatirjheel event.
The foundation launched its Children’s Cancer Fund in
Bangladesh in 2023. Through partnerships with nine hospitals nationwide, the
fund has financed treatment for 70 child cancer patients, with 21 now in
remission.
