A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered that Diamond World owner Dilip Kumar Agarwala be shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.
Dhaka
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Safatullah passed the order
following a police application, said State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
Earlier,
investigation officer Police Inspector Md Masudur Rahman produced Agarwala
before the court and sought permission to show him arrested in the case.
The
prosecution supported the application, while the defence opposed it and sought
bail. After hearing both sides, the court passed the order.
According
to the case documents, 35 to 40 leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh
Chhatra League, Awami League and its affiliated organisations brought out a
procession near Mohakhali Bus Terminal.
They
allegedly chanted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the ban on the Awami
League and detonated crude bombs. A case was filed over the incident with
Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station on 18 June 2026 under the Anti-Terrorism
Act.
In
the application, police claimed to have found evidence that Agarwala had
financed and patronised the alleged activities. His interrogation could provide
important information about the identities of absconding associates, their
plans and the sources of the explosives, the application said.
Police
arrested Agarwala from Banani in the capital on 19 October. The following day,
a court granted one-day remand in a case filed against him over allegations of
money laundering and smuggling gold and diamonds.
He
was later placed on a six-day remand in an attempted murder case related to the
July mass uprising. He was sent to jail after the remand period ended.
On
2 November, Agarwala, a member of the central industry and commerce
sub-committee of the activities-banned Awami League, was also shown arrested in
a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
