The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has shown Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Editor of The Daily Observer and former information adviser to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, arrested in a murder case filed with Jatrabari Police Station in connection with the July movement.
Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the development around 12:45am on Thursday (5 November).
He said Iqbal Sobhan, also former chairman of television channel DBC, had been shown arrested in the murder case (Case No. 23) filed with Jatrabari Police Station on 26 August 2024.
Meanwhile, Shafiqul Islam denied reports that another DBC News journalist, Rajib Ghosh, had been shown arrested in any case. He also said Rajib had not been brought to the DB office.
However, DB sources said Rajib Ghosh was expected to be released shortly after signing a bond.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, DB personnel took Iqbal Sobhan into their custody from the DBC television channel office in the capital's Mohakhali area and brought him to the DB office for questioning.
