Govt forms probe commission over measles vaccine delays
A A

The government has formed a three-member inquiry commission to investigate delays, alleged irregularities and administrative failures in the procurement and distribution of measles vaccines during the interim government’s tenure, covering the period from August 8, 2024 to February 3, 2026.

The commission will examine the causes of the failures, determine those responsible and assess their impact on public health.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Wednesday, forming the commission under Section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1956 (Act No. VI of 1956).

Former Supreme Court High Court Division judge Justice Nazmun Rahman has been appointed chairman of the commission. Its other members are Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) President Professor Dr Mujudd Hossain Alamgir and Health Services Division Additional Secretary A.N.M. Maunul Islam.

The commission will identify the reasons behind delays and irregularities in vaccine procurement and distribution, examine administrative failures and determine the responsibilities of those involved.

It will also recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and make any other recommendations it considers necessary.

The commission has been asked to submit its report to the government within 60 working days of the notification's issuance.

It will have the authority to visit any location in Bangladesh relevant to the inquiry and summon and question any person.

The Health Services Division will provide the necessary assistance, including secretarial support, and cover the commission's expenses.
