The fourth session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS), scheduled to begin on 9 November, is likely to last around 10 days, with two newly sworn-in MPs set to attend parliament for the first time.
The two newly elected BNP MPs, Mirza Faisal Amin and Eliza Zaman, took the oath on Tuesday. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad administered the oath at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
They were elected with BNP nominations from Thakurgaon-1 and Reserved Seat-23, respectively.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed attended the ceremony, conducted by Parliament Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan. The deputy speaker, chief whip, other whips, several MPs and Parliament Secretariat officials were also present.
Meanwhile, one seat in the 350-member parliament remains vacant because of a legal complication involving a constituency in Chattogram.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said the session's duration had yet to be finalised, but it could continue until 20 November. Five to six bills are expected to be placed before the House.
He said the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee would meet at 4pm on 8 November to decide the session's duration and business.
He added that the session had been convened in line with the constitutional requirement for parliament to meet at least once every 60 days.
The third session of the current parliament ended on 10 September after nine working days, during which six bills were passed.
