A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip on a fresh three-day remand for questioning in the murder case over the death of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri, following a police request for seven days to facilitate the investigation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Sahadat passed the order after a hearing, State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon said.

Earlier in the day, Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Tongi River Police Outpost, who is investigating the case, sought a fresh seven-day remand for Dwip.

Dwip was previously placed on a four-day remand on October 31 following his arrest. Tahsif's friend, Jerika Tasnim Disha, was also placed on a four-day remand on November 1 in connection with the case.

According to the latest remand application, Dwip told investigators that he called Tahsif out of his home at around 3:00pm on October 27. The two later visited several places with Disha, 19, another suspect in the case, before she returned home.

At around 12:40am on October 28, Tahsif and Dwip reached the Fish Basti area of Tongi. While walking through Bazar Basti towards a field beside the Turag River, they spotted several people and went their separate ways, the application said.

The application added that Dwip had provided investigators with some important information about the incident, but they were keeping the details confidential while verifying them.

Investigators said Tahsif, Dwip and Disha had been seen visiting different places and eating at restaurants before the incident. According to information gathered so far, Tahsif was last seen with Dwip and Disha before his death.

Police also need to examine and analyse CCTV footage collected with Dwip to establish the sequence of events. Investigators are particularly interested in finding out whom Dwip contacted after leaving Tahsif for 15 to 20 minutes during their stay at Nest Bar and Restaurant.

The remand application cited eight grounds for further questioning, including collecting and analysing call detail records (CDRs) of Tahsif, Dwip and others concerned, establishing the motive behind the murder, identifying the crime scene, recovering evidence and identifying and arresting others involved in the killing.

Tahsif went missing after leaving home on the evening of October 27 in response to a call from his junior friend Dwip. River Police recovered his body from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River the following afternoon.

His father, KM Enayetul Karim, later filed a murder case against unidentified people at Uttarkhan Police Station in the capital at 1:05am on October 30. Police subsequently showed Dwip arrested in connection with the case.
