The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 33 members of a banned organisation over the past 24 hours on allegations of carrying out sabotage activities while posing as garment workers.
Niaz Mehedi, additional deputy commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, confirmed the information.
He said the arrested individuals allegedly infiltrated garment workers' demonstrations under the guise of ordinary workers and attempted to create unrest and destabilise the situation.
The arrests came amid ongoing labour unrest in different parts of the capital, particularly in the Mirpur area, where demonstrations over wage-related demands have reportedly turned violent.
Police have alleged that activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations were involved in instigating violence during the protests.
Earlier, police detained 19 members of banned organisations from the capital's Mirpur area over their alleged involvement in the garment workers' movement.
Law enforcement agencies said operations would continue to identify and arrest those involved in sabotage and maintain law and order.
