The cabinet has approved the list of public holidays for next year, with 15 days of general holidays and 14 days of holidays under executive orders.
However, the total number of holidays will be 22 days as some of them coincide with weekends.
The cabinet approved the holiday list at a meeting held at the secretariat on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani announced the decision at a press conference later.
He said the proposed calendar includes 15 general holidays on the occasion of national days and important religious festivals of different communities.
Four of these holidays will fall on weekly holidays – two Fridays and two Saturdays.
The calendar also includes 14 days of holidays under executive orders on the occasion of Bangla New Year and various important religious festivals. Three of these holidays will coincide with weekly holidays, one Friday and two Saturdays.
Government employees will also be allowed to enjoy up to three days of optional leave during the year on the occasion of their respective religious festivals.
Besides, employees belonging to ethnic communities working in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and elsewhere will be entitled to two days of optional leave to celebrate their principal social festival, such as Biju, Boisabi or similar festivities.
