A Dhaka court on Monday ordered that Dilip Kumar Agarwala, owner of Diamond World and former member of the Awami League's central sub-committee on industry and commerce, be shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following an application by the ACC, said ACC lawyer Delwar Jahan Rumi.

Earlier, on 25 October, ACC Assistant Director and investigating officer of the case Sajjad Hossain filed the petition seeking to show him arrested in the case. The court then fixed Monday for a hearing in the presence of the accused.

According to the petition, Agarwala allegedly acquired and possessed assets worth Tk112.47 crore that were inconsistent with his known sources of income through dishonest means.

He was also accused of carrying out transactions totalling Tk755.30 crore through 34 bank accounts, involving deposits of Tk385.32 crore and withdrawals of Tk369.97 crore. The transactions allegedly involved the transfer, conversion and concealment of money.

A case was filed over the allegations on 8 October 2025 under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.

The petition stated that Agarwala was already in jail following his arrest in a money laundering case filed with Gulshan Police Station. The ACC said showing him arrested in the latest case was necessary to ensure a proper investigation.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala from a house in the capital’s Banani area on 19 October.

The following day, a court granted him one day’s remand in a money laundering case over alleged smuggling involving Tk6,781.9 crore.

On 21 October, the court ordered him to be sent to jail after the end of his one-day remand.

Subsequently, the court granted him a remand twice after showing him as arrested in a case filed over the alleged attempted murder of student Abul Jabbar by shooting during the July uprising.
