Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Sunday detained a former leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League at Dhaka University’s (DU) Jagannath Hall and handed him over to Shahbagh Police Station.
Arka Saha, a student of the 2017-18 academic session at DU, is a former social service secretary of the DU Chhatra League unit. He is also a listed accused in a case filed over attacks on students during the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August 2024.
Chhatra Dal men caught him while he was having food at a canteen inside the hall on Sunday afternoon. Representatives of the hall administration and the university’s proctorial team were present when the activists handed him over to police.
Dhrub Roy, a member of the Jagannath Hall unit Chhatra Dal convening committee, said they had information that Arka had been secretly staying in the hall at night for a long time.
“Students detained Arka after spotting him at the canteen this afternoon," he said.
Jagannath Hall Provost Prof Debashish Paul said Arka was handed over to police and the authorities concerned would now look into the matter and take necessary legal action.
