A Dhaka court on Sunday placed retired army officer Major Khondokar Abdul Hafiz on a four-day remand for interrogation in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Cyber Security Act with Pallabi police station in the capital over his alleged involvement in an anti-state conspiracy.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakibul Hasan passed
the order following a hearing, said Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Abu
Bakar Siddique.
Earlier, Inspector Sheikh Bashir Ahmed of the DB
Cyber and Special Crime (South) Division, also the investigation officer in the
case, produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand for
interrogation.
State prosecutor Harun-or-Rashid argued in favour of
the remand, while defence lawyer Jamal Uddin Bhuiyan sought cancellation of the
remand petition and bail for the accused. After hearing both sides, the court
granted a four-day remand.
Earlier on late Saturday night, Dhaka Metropolitan
Police's Detective Branch (DB) arrested Khandaker Abdul Hafiz from the
capital's Banani area.
