Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called six to seven
ministers and advisers to a meeting on Sunday evening to discuss the ongoing
labour unrest, and the demands by garment workers.
The Finance Minister, Home Minister, Labour Minister, and
others, including Adviser Mahdi Amin, are expected to join the meeting, Cabinet
sources have told reporters.
Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury
cancelled his UAE trip on Sunday morning, amid the street demonstrations being
staged by garment workers in Mirpur, Ashulia and Gazipur.
The protests have turned increasingly violent since
Saturday, and on Sunday, police detained more than 10 members of banned Awami
League and associates over their alleged involvement in the violence.
The violence erupted and continued even after the government
announced twice on Friday and Saturday that a new wage board on hiking wages
for garment workers would be formed on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, labour minister announced the formation
of the board, but protests continued till afternoon.
