Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has warned newly appointed police and Ansar cadre officers that their political affiliations during student life must not influence their professional careers, stressing the need to maintain discipline, professionalism and political neutrality while serving the state.
He made the remarks on Sunday at a briefing and introductory meeting for newly appointed 45th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police and Ansar cadre officers at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Congratulating the new officers, the minister said their primary responsibility in the superior service was to maintain law and order and ensure a conducive environment for the smooth functioning of all activities across the country.
He said administration, development, overall public security and people's sense of safety largely depended on their performance.
The minister instructed the officers to maintain discipline, follow service rules at all times and comply with lawful instructions from their senior officials.
Describing the police and Ansar services as different from other cadre services, he said officers in these forces had to work in highly challenging and often confrontational environments.
They frequently needed to make decisions within moments, making intelligence, professionalism and presence of mind essential, he said.
He urged the newly appointed officers to exercise the utmost caution and discretion in enforcing the law. He also warned them against abusing their authority under any circumstances and stressed the importance of upholding the image of the police force.
Home Ministry Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury chaired the meeting.
Inspector General of Police (in-charge) and Additional Inspector General (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain and Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud attended the programme as special guests.
According to the ministry, 80 candidates were recommended for the BCS Police cadre and 25 for the BCS Ansar cadre through the 45th BCS examination.
Following the issuance of official notifications by the Ministry of Public Administration, 65 police cadre officers and 19 Ansar cadre officers joined the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday morning, November 1, 2026.
