A Dhaka court on Saturday placed Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, who was arrested as a suspect in a murder case over the death of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri, on a four-day remand for interrogation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias passed the
order after a hearing in the afternoon.
Earlier in the day, Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Tongi River
Police Outpost, who is investigating the case, sought a seven-day remand for
him to facilitate a proper investigation.
Dwip was produced before the court around 2:15pm. During the
hearing, state prosecutor Azizul Haque Didar argued in favour of the remand.
The court granted four days of remand.
According to the case documents, Dwip allegedly took Tahsif
Sauri out of his residence at around 6:00pm on 27 October.
The following day, at around 4:30pm, police received information through the national emergency helpline 999 that an unidentified body was floating in the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan.
The victim was identified as Tahsif Sauri through an iPhone
found in the pocket of his trousers during the inquest, the petition said.
Later on 31 October, a case was filed with Uttarkhan Police
Station under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Penal Code, 1860, in connection
with the incident. Dip was shown arrested in the case.
Police said they traced Dwip's connection with the victim
through information technology and intelligence sources. During questioning, Dwip reportedly said that Tahsif Sauri was his senior.
The remand petition stated that the preliminary
investigation had found evidence suggesting Dwip's involvement in the murder.
It added that his remand was necessary to uncover the motive
and circumstances of the killing, identify and arrest other suspects, recover
evidence and the victim's motorcycle, and determine the place where the murder
took place.
