The government has fixed the medical examination fee for workers seeking employment in Malaysia at Tk8,000 per person, warning medical centres against charging more and urging workers to report any overcharging, harassment or irregularities.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment said no medical centre would be allowed to charge more than the fixed amount for the required tests.
The ministry advised Malaysia-bound workers not to pay more than Tk8,000 under any circumstances and cautioned them against seeking medical services through brokers or middlemen.
It also clarified that no medical centre would operate under the control of any particular recruiting agency. Workers selected for employment in Malaysia would be free to undergo medical examinations at any authorised centre.
If a worker decides to proceed through a different recruiting agency after receiving a medical slip from another agency, the previous agency must forward the medical report without delay. The ministry said no objection or excuse from the agency issuing the slip would be accepted.
Workers have been urged to inform the ministry immediately if any medical centre demands more than the fixed fee or causes harassment, unnecessary delays or other irregularities. Complaints can be sent by email to [email protected].
The ministry also reminded workers that no fee is required for a MiGRAMS slip.
It said medical centres would be regularly monitored and inspected, with strict legal action to be taken against those found involved in irregularities.
The ministry urged workers, recruiting agencies and medical centres to follow the instructions to ensure a transparent and orderly overseas employment process.
