A human chain was formed in Faridpur town on Friday afternoon, demanding a fair investigation into the murder of Kaushik Saha Jitu in Singpara, the prompt arrest of those involved and their exemplary punishment.
Leaders of local traditional religious and social organisations attended the programme, held in front of the Faridpur Press Club under the joint initiative of the district, Sadar and municipal units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad.
The human chain was chaired by Faridpur District Puja Udjapan Parishad Vice-President Tapas Kumar Saha.
Among those present were the organisation's General Secretary Bidhan Kumar Saha, Vice-President Sukesh Kumar Saha, Joint Secretary Ajay Kumar, Tushar Kumar Dutta, Sadar Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad President Sitanshu Mitra Kingkar, and General Secretary Chiranjeev Roy.
Bishwanath Sarkar Swadhin, general secretary of the metropolitan branch of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front; Ram Dutta, president of the Municipal Puja Celebration Council; and Subrata Ravidas, member secretary of the district committee of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front, also addressed the programme.
Speakers said the killing of young Kaushik Saha Jitu had left a family devastated forever, adding that nothing could compensate for such an irreparable loss.
They warned that they would launch tougher programmes in the future if their demands, including a fair and impartial investigation into the murder and the arrest of the actual perpetrators, were not met soon.
