The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has handed over Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, a close friend of former Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) flight lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri, to the River Police in connection with Tahsif’s death.
Dwip had spent nearly six hours with Tahsif before the latter went missing.
The PBI took Dwip into custody from a house in Block B of Babar Road in the capital’s Mohammadpur area early Friday.
On Friday, PBI officials visited the scene in the Mazar Basti area beside the Turag River in Tongi with Dwip and verified various pieces of information.
He was later handed over to the River Police, a senior PBI official told the media early Saturday.
Former BAF officer Tahsif left his home in Sector 18 of Uttara with Dwip on Tuesday (27 October) evening, telling his mother, “Dwip is coming. I will go and talk to him.” He left on his motorcycle at around 6:30pm and did not return.
CCTV footage showed Dwip arriving at the garage beneath Tahsif’s residence at 6:24pm. Tahsif came downstairs shortly afterwards, and the two rode away on separate motorcycles at 6:31pm.
Tahsif’s body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat at around 4:30pm on Wednesday (28 October). Members of the Tongi River Police outpost went to the spot after receiving a call through the national emergency service 999 reporting a floating body.
