Garment worker killed in Gazipur septic tank blast

A garment worker was killed when a septic tank exploded beneath a rented room in a three-storey building under construction in the Nawjor area of Gazipur city on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sakib a native of Baupal upazila in Patuakhali.

Rajib Hossain, warehouse inspector at Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station, said construction of the building was nearing completion.

Two rooms built directly above the ground-floor septic tank had been rented to garment workers, including Sakib.

The explosion killed Sakib on the spot and damaged the doors and windows of the rooms.

Two others were also reportedly injured in the blast, but local residents could not provide further details.
