A court has sentenced Ismail Molla, 56, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl with special needs in Faridpur’s Nagarkanda.
He has also been fined Tk20,000 and ordered to serve
another year of rigorous imprisonment in default.
The verdict was announced by Faridpur Women and
Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Judge and District Judge Shamima Parveen on Thursday
afternoon. The accused was present in the court when the verdict was announced.
Later, he was sent to the district jail under police guard.
According to the case statement, the child was
returning home with water from a pond next to a grocery store in a village in
Charjashordi union of Nagarkanda upazila at around 3pm on 15 December 2025. At
that time, Ismail Molla allegedly took her to the store and tried to forcibly
rape her.
After the incident, the child went home and informed
her family about the incident. On 21 December, the child's father filed a case
with Nagarkanda police station under the Prevention of Violence against Women
and Children Act, making Ismail Mollah the sole accused.
After investigating the case, Nagarkanda Police
Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Iranul Islam submitted the charge sheet to the court
on 27 February. The court delivered the verdict today after a long hearing and
taking testimony.
Confirming the verdict, the court's Public
Prosecutor (PP) Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan said, "Ensuring the safety of
children with special needs and preventing any kind of violence and abuse
against them is very important. We are satisfied with the court's
verdict."
