Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the Election Commission (EC) is giving equal importance to elections at all levels, not just national polls, as it seeks to establish a culture of credible elections by turning electoral contests into festivals.
He said the commission was working to ensure a fair
voting environment in every election, including the by-election to the
Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
The CEC made the remarks on Thursday after observing
the election monitoring cell set up by the EC to oversee the voting situation
in the constituency.
CEC AMM Nasir Uddin and other election commissioners
visited the monitoring cell in the morning to review the situation.
The CEC said the commission believed in transparency
and was treating the Thakurgaon-1 by-election with the same importance as a
national election.
He said the EC wanted to develop a culture of good
elections in the country and transform electoral competition into a festive
occasion.
Emphasising the commission’s responsibility to
ensure a fair voting environment in all elections, he said the EC had been able
to fulfil that responsibility.
