Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Health Affairs SM Ziauddin Hyder said on Wednesday that the government is determined to bring to justice those who assaulted Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Quazi Ahmed Zaki.

Expressing deep concern and condemning the attack in a Facebook post, he wrote, “Such a disgraceful incident is in no way acceptable. All those involved in the incident must be identified swiftly and brought to justice, and exemplary punishment must be ensured through a fair investigation.”

He said, “The government is determined to uncover the truth behind the incident, identify those involved in the attack and bring them to justice.”

Hyder added that the government is also committed to taking effective measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.

On Wednesday morning, a group of people, allegedly members of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), abruptly entered the office of Quazi Ahmed Zaki at IEDCR, during a meeting at the health facility.

The mob pulled Quazi from his chair and beat him up, as CCTV footage showed.
