A Dhaka court on Wednesday deferred the hearing on charge framing to 8 November in the murder case of Jobayed Hossain, a Jagannath University (JnU) student and leader of the university unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

Acting Judge Mazharul Islam of the Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court-20 fixed the new date, said the court’s bench assistant, Majedul Islam.

He said the hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but the defence filed a time petition on behalf of accused Barjis Shabnam Barsha and Md Mahir Rahman, prompting the court to defer it.

According to court sources, there are three accused in the case, and all of them are currently in jail. They were produced before the court on Wednesday.

On 19 October 2025, Jobayed was stabbed to death after he went to tutor Barjis Shabnam Barsha at her residence in the capital’s Armanitola.

Jobayed’s elder brother, Enayet Hossain Shaikat, filed a murder case two days later with Bangshal Police Station.

Police submitted a charge sheet on 30 June this year against three people, including Barsha, saying that the murder stemmed from a love triangle. The other two accused are Mahir and his associate Aylan.

According to the charge sheet, Barsha was romantically involved with both Jobayed and Mahir. It alleged that the three killed Jobayed, fearing that intimate photos and videos of Barsha and Jobayed might be leaked.

The charge sheet identified Barsha and Mahir as the masterminds, saying Mahir carried out the killing with Aylan’s assistance. It also said that the murder was planned nearly a month earlier.

Md Eshtiyak Hossain Jipu, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said on Wednesday that the court allowed the time petition filed by the defence for the last time and set the next date accordingly.

However, the court rejected a bail petition filed by Barsha, the lawyer added.
