A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed two leaders of the banned
Bangladesh Chhatra League on a five-day remand in a case filed under the
Anti-Terrorism Act with Gulshan Police Station in the capital.
The accused are Falgooni Das Tonni, former deputy literature
affairs secretary of the central committee of Chhatra League, and Sajedur
Rahman Sohan, joint general secretary of the organisation’s Tungipara upazila
unit.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam
passed the order after a hearing, according to a prosecution division source.
Earlier, Sub-Inspector Md Ruhul Amin, the investigation
officer of the case, sought a seven-day remand for the accused after producing
them before the court.
Police arrested Tonni at Hazrat Shahjalal International
Airport on 22 October, while Sohan was arrested in Mirpur on 24 October.
The remand petition said the accused needed to be
interrogated to determine the whereabouts of other accused, identify the
financiers and planners, and arrest them.
According to the case documents, leaders and activists of
the banned Chhatra League and the activities-banned Awami League brought out a
procession in front of a KFC restaurant on Road 3 in Gulshan-1 on 11 September.
They allegedly exploded crude bombs and chanted anti-state
slogans, creating panic in the area in an attempt to destabilise the elected
government.
A case was filed over the incident with Gulshan Police
Station on the same day, naming 118 accused and 80 to 100 unidentified people.
The investigation is underway in the case.
