A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered that former law minister Anisul Huq and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun be sent to jail upon completion of their respective three-day remands in a case filed over the killing of Jihad Hossain in the capital’s Jatrabari area during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order after a hearing, said State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
Earlier in the day, Criminal Investigation Department of police Inspector Farid Uddin (Dhaka metro north division) produced them before the court after interrogation and sought an order to keep them in jail.
On 25 February 2025, a Dhaka court had placed Anisul and Mamun on a three-day remand each in the case. As both were accused in several other cases and were in the custody of other law enforcement agencies for interrogation, the CID could not take them into its custody for questioning.
According to the case documents, Jihad Hossain took part in the movement on 19 July 2024 at Shanir Akhra in the capital. He was shot and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Following the incident, Jihad’s father, Nurul Amin Mollah, filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station on 3 September 2024, naming 85 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and accusing another 100 to 150 unidentified people.
